Best weekend, ever.

This weekend was so amazing, I can hardly stand it, or believe it all actually happened in the course of just a few days. Let me give you a quick run down, blog style, about what's occurred since Thursday.

Thursday- Half day because of finals. Huge weight off of EVERYONE'S chest because it was the end of the semester. It's always nice to be able to start with a clean slate. After school (which was 12:45) Kayla, Kyndra, Bryan and I all went to Mallory's house to make pancakes. This is sort of a tradition for us. We make pancakes more than we breathe, I think. Anyways, the pancakes were really small. I decided that they were a combination of cookies and pancakes. While trying to be clever in my head, and not thinking through my thoughts before letting them fly out of my mouth, I dubbed our creation "pannies". Typing it, it doesn't look as bad, but my verbal slip lead to brunch over conversation about edible underwear. After this, Kyndra and Bryan took Kayla home while Mallory and I drove to get Trevor from school. At this point, Kayla isn't able to go to our weekend extravaganza. We get back to Mallory's, watch The Sandlot and discover that the new kid at our school, and the tall skinny kid on the team that wears glasses have an uncanny resemblance to one another. Very fun. This somehow turns into me thinking the kids red coat is hot, and getting hit on through texts. Wonderful. By the time I go to bed, Kayla is able to go to the weekend party, and all is good.

Friday- Teachers need to get their grades in, so we have no school, which leaves me to sleep in, then lounge. I watched Stir Of Echoes, flipping to the Hannah Montana mega marathon on commercials. (I know, I'm diverse.) I got ready around 4, and left with Kyndra, Mallory and Kayla at 5:30. We went to Kayla's to talk about Cloverfield, and stuff the car with blankets. Then we go to Wendy's, and talk about how fun it would be to just recreate High School Musical, right there in the middle of a fast food restaurant. We had big plans, however, we grabbed Kyndra's little sister's burger and left without executing any part of it. We lost the boys basketball game, stocked up on more blankets and cookie dough and Kyndra's, almost had to have a parking lot throw down with more Horizon girls :), picked up Eddie and went back to my house. (During all of this, we realize that we are a completely legit boy band and sing 'I Want It That Way' much better than The Backstreet Boys.) We ate chicken fingers at 11, dropped Eddie off once we were dressed like "fat, pregnant, hippie lesbian fans" and drove down to the convention center.

Friday night/early Saturday morning-FIRST PEOPLE AT THE CONVENTION CENTER! It was super cold out and the Convention Center ended up letting us inside. It was a big Jonas fan sleep over. Soo much fun. How many people get to say they camped out in the convention center? Bet you can't. The custodian was cleaning the girls bathroom so I stuck it to the man and went into the guys. Urinals make me laugh on sight, and Alyssa and I discuss how they just definitely wouldn't work for females.

Saturday- I'm surviving on 0 minutes of sleep and seven Red Bulls. I don't care if that's a health risk or not, my friends and I were sooo ridiculously nervous. We split up throughout the ticket line, Mallory stole me a 'Jonas Brothers Tickets' sign and we all shook like crazy waiting for the number to be called. Lots of freaking and lack of sleep ended in THIRD ROW CENTER SEATS. Oh, Nicholas Jerry Jonas...this will be great. Mallory took pictures of me jumping up and down. I saw an old friend at church after 3 hours of sleep. It was so nice to see him, and to know right off the bat that he hasn't changed since we were 12. :) After church, my Mom, her best friend Carla and I went italian. The food was soo good. I went home, watched Law and Order and CRASHED.

Monday - I got my braces off, went to lunch with my mom and grandparents, and bought four purses. I watched those Jonas boys on Ellen, and discussed with Addam how he "likes the one that falls a lot." We decided our double wedding is a go.

Moral of the story? Life is so good right now. I have a wonderful family, the most AMAZING friends ever, a great church, a clean slate at school, metal-less teeth...and third row center seats to see the Jonases..the night before my sixteenth birthday.

I'm going to charge my ipod, pick out tomorrow's outfit and lounge with a smile. :)

Good days are..good.

I know, it's a little weird. It was a finals day, but it was good. I trudged to school in my warm fuzzy boots, sweat pants and a Volcom hoodie. I woke up late, left my hair curly and just went. I rocked my two finals I had to take today, and then..I came home.

At 11:30 :)

I ate some Ravioli and watched Life of Ryan with my older sister. Now I'm here, listening to Ready, Set, Don't Go by Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus. It reminds me so much of my Mom and I it's scary. Very emotional song for me..especially with fashion school across the country in New York being such a big topic for us.

I have youth group later tonight, and I'm excited for whatever I'm going to learn.

Math, Anatomy and French finals tomorrow. This Friday into Saturday shall consist of lots of line waiting, web site visiting and ticketmaster extravaganzas.

pray for me!

Finals Week;

Finals week naturally means that I am more stressed out than I am during any other time of year. So much studying, worrying and all around freaking out. It's junior year, and GPAs are so disgustingly important, it puts finals onto a whole new pedestal.

There's always that one teacher though. The one that understands, cuts you a break and gives you the final assignment a week in advance so you have a lot of extra time to work on it. This year, it was my sociology teacher. Coolest guy in the history of teachers. He cut us a major break by giving the assignment out early.

So what's the problem?
I, Devin Janelle Aragon, put the pro in procrastination. So here I am, 5:57 on Sunday night, just now beginning to put together this assignment.

It's horrible that I always wait until the last minute to always do things like this. But, what's even worse, is that I'm 99.9% sure, I'm going to get a wonderful, solid A.

Oh, and about 2 minutes ago I got some incredible news.
Let me fill you in on some background information first.

My sixteenth birthday is February 10th.

And, well, I just read a bulletin telling me that February 9th may very well be the most amazing night of my life, and my 16th birthday may just be the greatest birthday ever.

Why?

THAT'S WHY.

For the Record;

I caught myself up on Life of Ryan, Cashmere Mafia and Gossip girl today. Let me re-cap before I go run;

Ryan Sheckler never ceases to steal my heart in a nano second, even when he does nothing that's really even admirable. Maybe it's his uncanny good looks or his ability to love on his little brother like I so rarely see teenage boys do.

Regardless, my conclusion is thus: To swoon for a half hour every Tuesday night, for several weeks.

I think my love for Cashmere Mafia is evolving simply because of the power women have in the show. The four main characters are each very successful in their careers, and as a nice change, guess what?

Not a dang one of them depends on their husbands.
Oh yeah, boys. Get a load of that. :)

It also helps that each of the women are intelligent, sophisticated and (for the most part) classy.

And Gossip Girl. :) I'm telling you, I don't care if Chace Crawford stands there and holds a trash bag for an hour, I'll watch it. But, him getting all up in his on-screen best friend's face to fight about who slept with his girlfriend when, is even better. The ups of the friendship between Blair and Serena, and their ridiculous fights also remind me very much of my best friend, Kayla and I.

Needless to say, my life is drama free, (knock on wood) and I enjoy that very much. Gossip Girl is my right hand woman when it comes to my need for a little bit of dramatized entertainment.

On that note, you know you love me.

Laryngitis, new pajamas and youth group..Oh my!

Ah, yes, it's true. Acute Laryngitis has come to nestle itself cozily into my life. Not really a very big deal, I'm home alone. I'm not much of a 'talk-to-a-water-bottle' type of person, so my inflamed vocal chords are getting plenty of rest.

My all around amazing best friend, Kayla, sent me an enlightening text when I gave her the news.

I quote:

"Oh my goodness. It's all the singing Ashlee."

Yeah, 6 years of friendship is a beautiful thing.

The whole new pajama thing really isn't of any importance. My mommy was nice enough to buy me some while she was shopping for herself last night, and they are incredibly warm. :)

Last night was Wednesday, which means I was in church with my youth group, learning about something sweet. Last night we focused on 'Leaps of Faith'.

Basically, it all went back to the story of Peter walking on water. Some days we wake up and we're in a good place with ourselves and our God (We don't realize often enough that those go hand in hand) and we have all the faith in the world in Him and what He can do. But then, life throws us curve balls, and like Peter, we slowly start to lose our faith. We think the conditions have changed, but they never do. We need to work daily to get it through our imperfect little heads that God has it all under control.

Sometimes, I wish Jesus could look at me like he did Peter and say;
"Oh, faint of heart, what got into you?"

How would that be for a reality check.

Until then, leading by faith not sight it is :)

Now, it's time to catch up on some Cashmere Mafia, Life of Ryan and Gossip Girl.
(I know, that New Years resolution failed, but hey, I'm still staying updated.)

Goodbye, Winter Break.

Seeing as it's 2:16 AM, that makes it Sunday, January 6th.
Also known as the last day of winter break.

It was filled with Guitar Hero, restaurants, dressing up, shopping, mixed CDs, DDR, pancakes, laughing, loving and living.

And the occasional Hannah Montana marathon. Hey, there's no used in denying how much I love Miss Miley Cyrus and her rock star alter ego. (Even though she's a rock star either way, pretty win-win isn't it?)

Anyhow, I had to read 'The Gospel According to Larry'. Actually, when it comes down to it, and what it's all about, it's a pretty decent story.

So far, I've kept my new years resolutions pretty well. Except Life of Ryan, but I haven't had the chance. The new season starts Tuesday, and I'll be all over it!

Speaking of reality shows on MTV (which I will never understand) Tila Tequila and her new found 'soul mate', Mr. Bobby, are no longer soul mates. Imagine that! This means, we will all get to be entertained by another season of Tila searching for love.
Publicity stunt?
I don't think so.

It just furthers the valid argument I have been giving since episode one, America:
You should've picked Dani, Tila. You should've picked Dani.
I mean, seriously. Did anyone not like Dani? I think it may be virtually impossible to dislike someone who is proud of who she is, doesn't judge, isn't much of a trash talker.. and looks like Ryan Sheckler.
;)

It's late, I'm rambling.
Goodnight.

Life's little pleasures, and double posting.

It's a beautiful thing, the little events that can make someone smile.

Today was rather uneventful. I got my hair cut and played my last indoor soccer game of the season.

But, afterwards, I went to IHOP to enjoy some decent chicken florentine crepes with Kayla, Kyndra and Bryan.

That's not the coolest part though. I know, you're thinking 'cooler than chick florentine crepes'?! I am here to assure you, yes.

About a year ago, I stumbled across a little band by the name of The Kooks. They're a band from the UK, and they crammed their little foreign butts into my heart with "She Moves In Her Own Way". Since then, I've gotten into many more of their songs, and just generally enjoyed them as a band.

During the drive back to my place after IHOP, the DJ on one of Denver's hottest stations announces that he will "be playing the hot new song, She Moves In Her Own Way by The Kooks". This was very exciting, and a little annoying all at once.

New to him? Maybe. But new in general? Wrong!

Regardless, The Kooks have made it to mid-western United States, and I'm stoked.

Chronological order is for suckers.

Let me digress.
Before I made and had to apply all of my New Year's resolutions, I had to celebrate. Oh, and I did. My best friend Kayla, our good friend Kyndra, her boyfriend Bryan and our other friend Adam were all in attendance. We decided that Old Chicago was our last meal of the night, but, only because IHOP was closed (I know what you're thinking. IHOP closes?! No worries, we were baffled too.).

So instead, we settled for a pepperoni and sausage pizza and spilling drinks. Unfortunately, there was no live entertainment to help us enjoy our meal, but Kayla flirting with our waiter, who ending up being engaged with a child on the way, was funny enough. We then had the honors of toasting to "the little guy" courtesy of Bryan, who does not have a nerve in his body that would give off 10 seconds of seriousness. It was incredibly cold outside, and in tights, boots and an over sized sweater (fashion can get a little chilly, fellas) I was feeling it. But, no worries. I had gloves and a scarf. All was good.

The car rides to and from Casa de Devin included many 90's pop songs, and many 2007 pop songs. Bryan was the only one in the car that didn't sing MMMBop by Hanson. Off the record, I don't care what VH1 says..that made the top 10 songs of the 90's easy. Anyways, the Hanson brothers were accompanied by some Hannah Montana (Or was it Miley Cyrus?) and of course, the Jonas Brothers.

Speaking of the Jonas Brothers, is there a better way to ring in the new year? The majority of you who had the good fortune of finding this blog are probably vigorously nodding your head and saying "Why yes, Devin, of course there is." I however, have a hard time believing that any of you are looking confused and saying "Who are the Jonas Brothers?". Unless you have chosen to lead an amish lifestyle in which you cannot pass a teen magazine, watch a talk show, listen to a radio or get on the internet, I have to argue that you know them. But, seeing as you're reading this right now, I'll chalk it up to that not being the case! Anyhow, back on topic, I will answer my own question. As a nearly 16 year old teenage girl who loves music and high fashion? There most definitely is not. They have catchy voices with catchy lyrics accompanied by catchy beats. Do the math - they're completely and totally contagious. It also doesn't hurt that they dress better than any young men I have ever seen. Oh, and they're incredibly cute. Hmm. Package deal, anyone? Moral of this long, drawn out story: They had the opportunity to perform on Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve special, and did wonderfully. As a fan of nearly three years- this is a huge deal. They have come so far!!

Needless to say, my guy friends were not excited about having to watch the JoBros dance across the TV while Kayla and Kyndra decided they would share Joe. Every cloud has a silver lining though, because Miley Cyrus soon joined the stage. Tada! No more boy complaints :) Thank you, Miss Cyrus.

After a few songs, it was back to Guitar Hero 3. For only playing twice, I have to say I was DESTROYING every song...on easy. Yeah, I felt pretty good. And then along came Slayer. I love Slayer. I grew up on Slayer. They defeated me, and bad. But, then again, I suppose there's not many other bands I'd like to destroy me. Except maybe, Kiss or Cinderella.

We counted down the final seconds of the year over cider in champagne classes (Thanks, Mommy :D) and then tooted party horns in each other's ears obnoxiously. Kayla and I traditionally stood in my driveway and screamed before heading back inside to listen to Miley mess up her words. "It's been a God year." But, maybe it wasn't such a mess up? After all, wrong context or not, every year is a God year. It's a nice start to the New Year to be reminded that the celebrities you adore are, in fact, human.

It was a great New Years. Good friends, good food and good laughs. I got a call from one of my really good friends, Melissa, on the east coast on HER New Years. Being in two years at once, pretty trippy, huh? Kayla was my New Years kiss-on-the-cheek, and we were up until 4:30 guitar hero-ing it up. Until Slayer came along, telling us we were failures and should just go to sleep.

So, we did.

Oh, and, new Gossip Girl was on last night. I watched it with my mom. As much as I would love to believe that Chace Crawford is in fact in my grade, is that even believable? Come on, CW. Give me something to work with, here.

xoxo-
Devin.

Blogs, eh?

Well, it's 2008, and I'm figuring, new year, new things. This whole blog thing has always seemed a little lame to me, and as I type my first entry, I have a feeling that I was never too far off.

Christmas Vacation comes to an end on January 7th, for good 'ol Thornton High School students. I have to say, I'm pretty excited to be expected to be alert and ready to learn at 7:15 AM in 13 degree Colorado winter weather.

(For all of you that stumble across this, I do hope you're a fan of sarcasm.)

All sarcasm aside though, I am very excited for a new year. Last year had plenty of ups and downs, many that were self induced, and I have every intention of making this year ten times better. (Isn't that always the goal, though?)

I made several New Years resolutions, because usually, I don't end up keeping them, so by making several, I figure I'm bound to hold at least one up. Of my dozens and dozens of sorry expectations I'm holding myself to in the glorious year of 2008, there are a few that I'm looking forward to;

one- intensifying my relationship with my God. I noticed in 2007 more than ever that life can get in the way of so much if you let it. There's only so much time in a day, and a lot of us (me very much included) get our priorities way out of whack. Faith is an incredibly hard thing, and because of that, we often push it aside. Well, no, no, no! Not this year! I'm workin' overtime to get the fact that I need to daily live for the person that gave me life (No, not my mother) the number one priority spot in it.

two- helping others. I recently had a day that, for lack of a better description, sucked. I in no way expected people to go out of their way to talk to me, but, it would have been nice. Looking back, I think of so many times where people dropped little hints about a bad day, texted me just to vent, and I shrugged it off. I linked how they must how been feeling (probably worse than I was) to how I felt just the other day. I figure, if someone thinks I'm a decent enough person to want to tell me about their problems, then that's probably one of the nicest things a person can do. The least I can to is offer to listen, and maybe invite them out of the house to get their minds off of things - no matter how inconvenient it is to me. It's a compliment, not a burden, and I don't see it that way often enough.

three- spend as much time as humanly possible with my family. God blessed me so much in this area. Although my father ended up being a genetic carrier instead of a dad, I have such an extraordinary family. I have a fantastic set of grandparents, they are the ultimate example of love. An uncle who opens my eyes to my love of music more and more every time I see him. Most laid back man I know - it's so contagious! My older sister, who even though is 7 years older than me, can sometimes still feel like my junior. Her and I even each other out very well, and she is an incredibly essential part to my life. My brother in law Zach, and his sisters, Ali and Dakotah who have without a doubt become a part of my family over the last four years. We fight like cats (Dakotah's died) and dogs and annoy the snot out of each other. We have a love that's real and intense though, and that's very important.

And then there's my oh-so-incredible mother. She's the most selfless person I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, it's without a doubt the icing on the cake to say she's my mom. There's a fine line between being a mother, and trying to be your daughter's friend, and my mom steers clear of the latter. She's always my mom first, but by remembering what it was like to be a teenage girl and always knowing what I'm going through, she's been able to achieve being my best friend, too. She's the strongest woman I have ever met, and she still gives her everything to life and to her God. Talk about admirable!

four- lead an all around healthier lifestyle. Yes, I am sad to say that I will no longer be indulging on half a box of Oreos while I watch an America's Next Top Model marathon (Drown in the irony of that one, bloggers). This resolution, however, is not just limited to America's persistence on teenage girl's ribs sticking out farther than any other body part. It includes talking less and listening more, loving even when it's hard and laughing where ever and whenever I want. For the record, I don't care if it kills me..I am never giving up Diet Coke.

five- Quit biting my nails, and be committed to watching Gossip Girl and Life of Ryan weekly. (Hey, they can't all be life altering, Ryan Sheckler is just too cute to pass up, bald or not.)

Two days in, I'd say I'm doing a pretty darn good job. :)

Happy 2008, everyone.

xoxo-
